World Hepatitis Day – 2025
Theme: “Let’s Break It Down”

World Hepatitis Day is observed every year on July 28 to raise global awareness about hepatitis and to encourage prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. The theme for 2025, “Let’s Break It Down”, emphasizes simplifying the understanding of hepatitis and breaking barriers to care.
As part of the observance, a special event was organized by the Department of Community Medicine, Kanyakumari Government Medical College & Hospital.
The inaugural address was delivered by Prof. Dr. K. U. Suresh Balan, Dean (FAC), who highlighted the importance of awareness, early diagnosis, and public participation in hepatitis prevention and control.
Dr. J. Judson Neslin, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, warmly welcomed the gathering and set the tone for the program.
The scientific sessions included insightful talks by eminent speakers:
Prof. Dr. P. John Christopher, Head of the Department of General Medicine, presented an informative session on the clinical features of hepatitis.
Dr. Kingsly Jebasingh, Medical Superintendent, elaborated on the risk factors associated with hepatitis.
Prof. Dr. M. Sudha, Head of the Department of Microbiology, delivered a talk on the laboratory diagnosis of various types of hepatitis.
Dr. Jaipaul, Department of Medical Gastroenterology, discussed the management and treatment options available for hepatitis patients.
The event was conducted in the esteemed presence of Dr. Vijayalakshmi, RMO, and Dr. Reni Mol, ARMO.
As part of the awareness campaign, a poster competition was conducted for paramedical students, showcasing creative expressions of the theme and key messages related to hepatitis prevention.
Pamphlets containing information on hepatitis, its modes of transmission, prevention strategies, and available treatments were distributed among attendees and hospital visitors.
The program was attended by over 200 participants, including faculties, CRMI, paramedical staff, and medical students, all of whom benefited greatly from the sessions.
The event concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks delivered by Dr. R. Abishek, Senior Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine, acknowledging the contributions of all speakers, participants, and organizers

This year Anti HBS Ab titre was tested for 40 health professionals. Among which 14 were found to have titre less than 10m IU.
On 23/7/25 Elocution and Poster competitions were held for allied health students.
Topic: Breaking down modes of transmission of Hepatitis.
