he Department of Community Medicine, Kanyakumari Government Medical College, observed World Breastfeeding Week 2025 on 7th August 2025.
The theme for this year:
“Prioritise Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems.”
As part of the event, a debate competition was organized for Pre-final year students at the Pre-final Year Lecture Hall.
The topic of the debate was:
“Who plays a crucial role in exclusive breastfeeding – Family member or Healthcare worker?”
Students took part with great enthusiasm, sharing thoughtful and balanced arguments from both sides. The discussion highlighted the idea of shared responsibility, showing how both family members and healthcare workers are important in supporting mothers during the exclusive breastfeeding period.
The program was graced by the Guest of Honour, Prof. Dr. K. U. Suresh Balan, Dean (FAC) sir, who addressed the gathering and motivated the students and faculty to actively support breastfeeding through awareness and education.
Dr. Madhumitha, Associate Professor, Department of Community Medicine, served as the judge for the debate and appreciated the clarity, confidence, and depth of understanding shown by the speakers.
The presence of Dr. Vijayalakshmi (RMO) mam added further significance to the occasion through her support and encouragement.
